The storm damage was so bad at New Jersey’s Port Newark that a Toyota spokesperson said that many of its vehicles were not salvageable after being submerged in water five feet deep at the port. However, later the spokesperson said that some of the vehicles would in fact be saved.

Nearly every automaker moves products through Port Newark. In total, up to 4,000 Toyotas were damaged or destroyed by the storm at the port, while many thousands of other brands were likewise hit at the port. Industry observers feel that the losses could equal more than $100 million.
